The National Rugby League (NRL) is the top league of professional rugby league football clubs in Australasia. The NRL competition is contested by 16 teams, 15 based in Australia and one based in New Zealand. Each year the NRL champions play an additional game against the premiers of the European Super League competition in the World Club Challenge.
A total of twenty-three clubs have played in the National Rugby League between 1998 and 2007. Today there are 16 clubs which compete in the NRL. 10 clubs are from New South Wales, 3 from Queensland, 1 from Victoria, 1 from the Australian Capital Territory and 1 from New Zealand.
